Begin with a poignant exploration of the Gallipoli battlefields, where moving memorials and former front lines tell the story of the First World War. After an overnight stay in Canakkale, continue to ancient Troy, famed for its legendary wooden horse and layers of archaeological intrigue. Blending powerful wartime heritage with classical myth, this short journey offers a compelling glimpse into Turkey’s past before returning to Istanbul.
Itinerary
Day 1
Istanbul to Gallipoli, ANZAC Battlefields & Canakkale
Istanbul - Gallipoli - Canakkale. Arrive in Istanbul the day prior to the start of the tour, and you will be picked up from your hotel in the Old Town vicinity between 06:30 am and 7 am. We then depart for Gallipoli, the site of the 1915 campaign that became a defining moment in the history of Turkey, Australia and New Zealand.
We visit Anzac Cove, where the Allied troops first landed, before continuing to Lone Pine Cemetery, the scene of one of the fiercest battles of the campaign. At Johnston’s Jolly, we see preserved Turkish and Allied trenches and tunnels, offering a sobering insight into the realities faced by soldiers on both sides. We also stop at The Nek, site of the ill-fated charge by Australian troops, and at Chunuk Bair, home to the New Zealand Memorial with sweeping views across the peninsula.
We arrive in Canakkale at approximately 6:30 pm, where you can relax this evening after a reflective and historically significant day.
Please note: Pick up and drop off is only offered from centrally located hotels in Istanbul Old Town vicinity. If your pre and post tour hotel is located in a different area of the city, you will need to make your own way to/from the Old Town or pay an additional charge for transfers.
Day 2
Troy & Return to Istanbul
Canakkale - Troy - Istanbul. After breakfast, you will have the morning at leisure. You may wish to relax at the hotel, explore Canakkale’s waterfront promenade, or enjoy a coffee overlooking the Dardanelles, the narrow strait that has linked Europe and Asia for centuries.
Around midday, we collect you from your hotel and depart for Troy with its famous wooden horse. During our visit, we learn about the history and legends of this ancient city, best known from Homer’s Iliad.
After the tour, we depart for Istanbul at approximately 5 pm, arriving around 11 pm. On arrival, you will be transferred to your post tour accommodation in the Old Town vicinity. This will mark the end our our tour. Safe travels!
